Making some selections for a Master Bathroom we are working on right now. The bathroom currently feels very dark and heavy, but the clients don’t want all white for their selections. We chose to stick to neutrals by combining warm whites, beiges, and taupes. The texture and veining in the tiles and countertop will allow the eye to move throughout resulting in a larger feel to the space. The medium stained cabinets will give the space a rich feel while also breaking up the beige colors. Things don’t matter as much as faith, family, and friends but, they matter. The nicest couple EVER!! Our Lewisburg, TN clients were in desperate need of a downstairs and exterior remodel. They called Hamilton Rae, LLC to help guide them and create a new floorplan within their existing envelope (existing home structure). We move the laundry room, opened the kitchen to the living room, added a walk-in pantry, created a HUGE master suite (another post) and do much more! The exterior is dramatically different as well. We are still in the process but we live it do far! The microwave will be going in the pantry for those wondering why I would design a kitchen with a countertop microwave! Some days as a designer aren’t so glamorous…We start the day with a nice shower, clean clothes, brushed teeth, makeup, hair dried and curled, and even jewelry. Receiving inventory (aka unloading trucks, walking job sites, loading a trailer with a large auction haul, boxing/shipping online sales, and showroom cleaning, tagging, arranging…At the end of the day, hair is up, makeup has been sweat off, jewelry gone, breath smells like lunch, and clothes are sweaty and damp! YUCK!!! But, we do what we do because we love what we do. I have used everything under the sun but always go back to this simple recipe to get our clothes really clean. I didn’t add any essential oils to this batch but I typically add lemon oil. You can also add Oxy, baking soda, and/or Laundry Boosters to customize it to your liking. This recipe makes 1/2 gallon of laundry detergent. There’s enough product to make 1 1/2 gallons if you purchase three bars of the soap (about $35 total purchasing from Amazon). One tablespoon of this recipe is generally enough to wash a medium sized load.

Add impact to your home decor by grouping items that are similar to each other, and give them different heights. Some of our favorite items to group are: -Ginger Jars similar in color (Think light greens and blues or whites and off-whites) are always a favorite. Different sizes or multiples raised on risers, like wooden boxes or books can make a gorgeous display. -Wall Art, aka a gallery wall, is typically fantastic in any room. We love to mix metals, woods, colors, black and white, etc. The trick is to get the balance right and draw attention to your most prized pieces. Place your most precious pieces in the natural line of sight or, draw attention to those pieces by making their frames more impactful. We love using gold metal frames mixed with antique wood frames. The ones that are used less will be more impactful. -Baskets are such a beautiful statement when done correctly. They can also look like clutter quite easily so maybe seek some design advice on this one. -Pairing statuary pieces at two different heights is MUCH more impactful than having them sit side by side or alone. -Items of the same color is a fun and often, inexpensive, way to add impact to a home. We had a client with a modern farmhouse vibe and she had really tall ceilings. Her budget was tight but we needed to add height to her tall furniture so we added a few tall baskets at different heights as a backdrop. We then added eleven white pitchers at different heights. Most of the pitchers we purchased at thrift stores and inexpensive retail stores (We even spray painted a couple glass pitchers she owned and never used). In front, we placed three Ironstone pieces in different shapes. Look around your home. Gather items that are similar and group them together. Don’t forget to add a few books under a few to give them different heights. This was a fun project! Fun meaning challenging, and yes, that’s fun for us! We previously designed a kitchen, breakfast room, sitting room, and living room for this vlient, had their entire house painted and selected and installed a house of window treatments for this client. We were DYING to get our hands on his office!! Finally, we got the call with the go ahead!! The challenges were many: -The office was carpeted and our client LITERALLY had a piece of plywood behind his desk to roll on! -The office is PACKED full of work stuff yes, but also family vacation souvenirs, sentimental items from relatives, books, career awards, trophy’s, favorite team memorabilia, and so many animals (taxidermy, not alive!) -Make the space glow with the rest of the house since it is open to the foyer and visible from the dining room. -Client works from home so the work had to be completed as quickly as possible. Our strategy: -Remove the carpet and extend the same wood flooring in the other areas we had already completed into the office. We are having a large piece of clear plastic made as a floor mat to protect the wood floors from the desk chair rollers. -Design cabinetry that will allow for all of the memorabilia to be seen by our client. This included adjustable floor to 10’ ceiling open shelving and large openings for deer heads. Also, closed door storage for work stuff! -We painted the walls the same color we used in the foyer and living room to be cohesive but also because it looked fabulous with our cabinet color choice. We used a green (dark sage) on the cabinetry. It’s very similar to the tile we used for the kitchen backsplash and fabrics used in the sitting room and living room, just a little darker. -We waiting to start any demo until we were one week from cabinetry to be installed. We removed the carpet, installed wood and stained and finished by Friday. We installed cabinetry, countertops and all moldings Monday-Wednesday, drywall mud/paint then final flooring top coat on Friday. Monday we cleaned & decorated (2 weeks)! It may be tiny but it sure does feel nice! This Belle Meade bathroom refresh was exactly what are clients were looking for. This is what we did: -Removed tub/shower combo -Installed a new shower (tile walls and floors, glass sliding door, faucet/drain, handrail, and towel bar). -Removed tile and plaster, installed new drywall. -Waterproofed floors and shower with Schluter products. -Replaced floor tile -Installed a new toilet Installed a new quartz countertop -New sink -New mirror -Added a light/fan combo -Added new light over vanity -Reused the vanity cabinet but added fresh paint. -Added decorative shelf/towel bar above toilet. -Painted walls and trim. This bathroom was such a pleasure to do. Our clients were a referral from another client couple. Both are as precious as they can be! Our front deck is finally getting stained!!! For those familiar with our building, when we took possession there was a huge front porch and deck that was literally falling. We installed a new one fall of ‘23. It has been driving me NUTS not having a stain on it. Today is FINALLY the day that it is getting done! Our oldest son, Austin, is doing a fantastic job. I LOVE propagating plants! What I don’t love are the plastic drip trays used to catch the water after my green babies get their weekly bath. So, I kept my eyes open for a pretty solution and scored! I found three of these gorgeous cut glass plates with raised edges. They work perfectly and sparkle when the sun comes through the window. So much better!! Thrift vs styled! Yay! I found the solution to our soap/sponge residue solution! We truly love the convenience of this soap dispensing sponge with handle. It is super easy but here’s the catch. After using it, we just set it on the sink lip and walk away. By the end of the day, there’s a gummy, slimes residue that I just can no longer tolerate. I found a cute bar soap dish, I think, and it is perfect for the sponge. BUT, after further thought, I decided I want a dish that will also house my sink stoppers (technical term!). It’s really thick glass so I’m not afraid of it breaking. Plus, I paid a whopping $4 for it! The sponge thingy can be purchased most everywhere.
