Interior Design Process

It is important to hire a professional interior design team when you're wanting to remodel or redesign your home. You may be wondering, what does it entail? With Hamilton Rae, you are never left in the dark. We keep you involved every step of the way, and we always will keep you updated on what we're doing and when we are in your home. Read below to learn more about the design process with Hamilton Rae.

  • Initial Consultation

    For existing properties, we ask for a $350 fee to schedule the initial consultation, this consultation is done in your home and can take up to 2 hours. We will walk with you through all areas of concern, take measurements, give recommendations, take notes, and present an estimate for design hours needed to complete the design phase of the project. At the end of this consultation, you can decide to move forward with us by signing our contract and paying a retainer of $1,750.00, which will cover 10 design hours.

  • Design

    Before our work together begins, we give you an estimate of the hours it will require. It is always our goal to stay within that range, but that isn't always possible. In any event, our approximation should give you an idea of what to expect and we will offer frequent updates on the total hours as the project progresses. We clock all time spent on your project and send weekly invoices so you can follow how your money is being spent. We require payment in advance of ten hour increments.

  • Trade Day

    After the design phase is complete, if needed, we will invite tradespeople to your home to look at the site with the design, take measurements, photos, and notes. They will then be prepared to supply more accurate estimates and timelines. Additionally, our design team may be taking more precise measurements for specific items needed to begin the selection process for proposals.

  • Proposals and Ordering

    Once we have completed Trade Day, we are ready to begin making selections. Our design team will create room boards, space plans, and proposals for your approval. Once all items for each space are approved, you will receive an invoice for payment. Once the payment is received, our team will place all orders. We will handle all communication with the vendors and update you weekly within your invoice.

  • Receiving and Inspections

    As our client, you will have access to custom furnishings and special pricing. We charge a flat 10% fee over your price of goods for the cost of receiving to our location, unboxing, inspection, handling damages, and preparing for delivery. This keeps the design process running smoothly and efficiently to ensure that your new furnishings are exactly what you expect.

  • Delivery and Installation

    For delivery, we charge a per-day fee that includes two or more members of our team, truck, fuel, unboxing, placement in room for installation, and haul away of all packaging. For larger projects, we may schedule several days for delivery and one-two days for the final installation. For installation days, the designer and one or more assistants will place, style, and perfect every detail to give you a truly turn-key experience.

  • Demolition For Cabinetry Projects

    During demo, please leave affected areas clean and free of belongings. This phase should only take a few days, and we ask that you leave the house if possible as utilities could be shut off temporarily. It's of the utmost importance that pets and children are kept from the construction zone. There will be mess, but we will handle it. Just relax and enjoy the process! Demo includes disposal of cabinets, countertops, appliances, and construction debris.

  • Cabinet Delivery and Installation

    You will be quoted for cabinetry delivery and installation with the initial cabinetry quote. This figure may change after trades day, but that is rare. Once all cabinets have been checked in by our staff and checked for damages, we will schedule the delivery and installation. Wood cabinets must be held in the climate controlled interior for two-three days prior to installation. There will need to be a cleared area for cabinets, outside of kitchen, the day of delivery. Typically a dining room or living room is used.

  • Final Walk Through

    This is the exciting part! The final walk through can take between one to three hours. This is where we will create a punch list of any outstanding items, hand off all warranty information, and cleaning + care guides in a final goodbye packet.

  • Punch List Completion

    After compiling the punch list, we will arrange for our team of experts to complete any items found during the final walk-through. Once we have been told all items are complete, we will ask you to view the project once again to assure that you are satisfied with the work.

  • Professional Cleaning

    After all work is complete and tradesmen have completed their tasks and performed their after duties cleaning, we bring in a professional cleaner to make your space move-in ready. We only use natural, but sanitizing, products without harmful chemicals. If you are sensitive to certain smells, please give that information to the team prior to cleaning day. Please allow 4-6 hours for this cleaning, although single rooms typically do not take so long.

  • Photoshoot

    We reserve the right to professionally photograph your home within 90 days of the final day of installation. Adding projects to our portfolio is an incredibly important part of our process and we appreciate your grace and permission to do so. We will spend 4-6 hours creating lived-in scenes and documenting vignettes for business use. We will schedule this appointment at least one week in advance. Please have each area clean and free of personal belongings. Your personal information will not be shared in promotional materials.

  • Review/Like/Follow/Refer

    Reviews are an important part of our business. If you are unsatisfied at any time, please communicate that with us. Otherwise, we will email a professionally written testimonial with links to our social media outlets for you to copy/paste. You are always welcome to edit the

    testimonial. We simply offer this as most of our clients are too busy to take on the task. Word of mouth is the most powerful advertisement we have. We hope you will tell your friends and family about us and recommend us to anyone wanting to build or improve their home.
